Born November 26th, in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, Mexico.

My initial relationship with clay began with my father (my first                                                           teacher), in the family run potteries of Oaxaca city. My responsibility were                                                           those of apprentice,  learning and carrying out all processes in the making                                                           of traditional wheel thrown ware.

At 10 years of age I was recognized and paid as professional wheel                                                           thrower  and potter. This allowed me to unfold, working in the mornings                                                           and studying in school in the evenings, as well as offering the choice of                                                           another career.

I completed my professional licensing in computer systems and programming. Never ceasing to work in clay I entered the Taller Rufino Tamayo for figure drawing and ceramics classes.

I fulfilled my first teaching position in the taller Rufino Tamayo while simultaneously working with artisans and foreign artists in their potteries/studios.

I have my first solo exhibition, "La Busqueda" and win third prize in a national juried show in Tlaquepaque Jalisco, Mexico. Along with various honorable mentions in local competitions.

Eager to learn more, my relationship with international potters Eliz Olivella of Seldovia, Alaska and Gustavo Perez of Jalapa, Veracruz vividly extend my limited world of Oaxaca traditional pottery.

Always being an artisan, I know the benefit of exchanging information and how much it has benefited. This leads me to work in remote pottery villages, Santa Maria Cuquila, Tlaxiaco, San Marcos Tlapazola, Tlacolula, and Santa Maria Atzompa. This year I also complete my 2nd solo show at the Rudolfo Morales Gallery, in Oaxaca. At this point I am still making wheel thrown work but my main body of work are clay murals, earthy map-like forms.

My Father, Vicente Hernandez, my brother Omar Hernandez and myself fill the exhibition gallery of "Casa de la Cultura" and receive positive notoriety. After which I travel to Canada, Cortes Island to take a raku course with Regnor Rienholdts of Seattle Washington. And as a result am invited to teach traditional and contemporary wheel throwing at the Cortes Community Studio. This is also the year of my matrimony with potter Eliz Olivella. I am invited to Slovakia, to participate and represent Mexican Artists in an international exhibition, with other artists from England, Greece, Russia, U.S., and Slovakia. Castle Mojmiroce hosted the exchange and residency with local artists.

My wife and I inaugurate our studio "Tierra Prima" in Oaxaca City as a space to share demonstrations and teach kiln building, do raku, and smoke firings. We are invited to Seldovia, Alaska to teach workshops in Raku and stoneware ceramics. We move our studio to the mountain village of Benito Juarez, with the desire to initiate a community studio in tile and mask making.

Also we returned to Alaska and further extended the workshops given with raku resist techniques and stoneware glaze formulation. Also we completed an exhibition "Dos Tierras", at the Fireweed Gallery, in Homer, Alaska.

The first show in Oaxaca of large format murals inspired by fossils of Alaska, Canada, and Mexico, "Canicula" at the Indigo Gallery.

In our Gallery, Tierra Quemada we have our annual show that allows collectors to see our new work first.

This year brings a lot of activity and interest in my work. With several shows. "Nautilus" at the Biznaga in September. Also the annual show at Tierra Quemada. And also the DIF Benefit at the Centro Cultural Isidoro Fabela in Mexico City. As well as two auctions at the Painters Museum in Oaxaca.

Exposition in the Technological University of the Mixteca located in Huajuapan de Leon, Oaxaca Mexico.
